Bins & utilities
π BinsΒ
are down by the main gate and split between:
general rubbish (green bin)
paper and card (blue bin - labelled)
bottles and glass (blue bin - labelled)
plastic and tins Β (blue bin - labelled)
Bin collection is Thursday morning (blue bins weekly, green bin fortnightly). Just drop your rubbish/ recycling down there when you pop out.
π» WifiΒ
is super quick with cable to the house - c 300Mbps down/ 50Mbps up
π₯΅ HeatingΒ
is a combination of log burners and electric heaters. There is a biomass system coming for 2024, but for now you'll need to cope with, and be patient with, what this old farmhouse has to offer.
The Annexe:
has an infrared heater in the kitchen - this is pretty powerful. Just turn on at the plug and then use the remote to turn it on. REMEMBER to turn this off at the plug when not in use - the planet and myself will thank you for it
has an electric wall-mounted convection heater in the snug below the window. To turn on, there is an on/ off switch located underneath, about 10cm from the right-hand corner. Please don't change the thermostat and remember to turn off
has a freestanding electric heater in the bedroom - pretty basic, just remember to turn off
the radiator in the bedroom is connected to the wood burner in the main house, so will only come on if that has been fired up (unlikely in summer)

π§WaterΒ
is all from our private spring. The upside of this is that it tastes lovely and is free - the downside is that the pressure is pretty rubbish. Just so you know, Mark from the council comes round every year and tests it - it's good water.Β
The Annexe:
If the fire has been on in the main house, or the immersion heater is on, you will have hot water in the kitchen. If not, I'm afraid you'll need to use the kettle for hot water for washing up
The shower heats its own water, so you won't need to worry about cold showers
Main house:
If the fire has been on, or the immersion heater is on, you will have hot water in the kitchen. If not, I'm afraid you'll need to use the kettle for hot water for washing up
The shower downstairs heats its own water, so you won't need to worry about showers being cold. That said, it's very noisy - hopefully you can bear with that until a new shower is installed
For showers upstairs and baths, you'll need to switch the immersion heater on - the switch is located under the slats in the left-hand corner of the wooden cabinet next to the toilet (blue cabinet)
Β πΊ Booze
may not strictly be a utility, but...
There's a cabinet built into the Main House pantry wall, behind which, is a random collection of alcohol. By all means take and enjoy, just make sure you drink responsibly and replace with something for future guests.
